So I read somewhere on Tumblr that Club Penguin is going to close soon and curiosity got the best of me and I checked if it was true. It was. It will close on March 29th to be exact. I suddenly felt nostalgic. My mind went back to the days of dial-up internet, searching for game websites like Y8, and custom-made Friendster and MySpace layouts.
No, I didn’t start coding in Friendster or MySpace but rather in a doll-making website called The Doll Palace.
It wasn’t like other doll sites; it had avatar chat where you can visit rooms and move around your avatar (much like Habbo) and it had profile and club & clique pages. The latter is why I learned how to code and use Photoshop. I wanted mine to have glitter and snowflakes too. You were cool back then if everything was animated and flashy.
I knew I wasn’t the only one who feels sad that TDP is gone. I went on Tumblr and searched for it. Here are some of the posts that came up:
I even found a post lamenting its demise, which you can read here.
I don’t recall finding bloggers on TDP. If you used to play it, kindly comment below!
Tbh, I also haven’t really been on Tumblr for the past three years or so. But because I keep seeing screenshots of Tumblr posts on my Facebook feed, I thought why not just visit the site itself. I actually missed Tumblr’s quirkiness.
How about you guys? How did you start coding or blogging?
